- Lara Heritage Festival becomes Lara Spring Fair
The Lara Heritage Festival, previously scheduled for March 2010, has been replaced by the Lara Spring Fair. The fair will be held over Friday 12 and Saturday 13 November 2010. www.laraspringfair.org.au
- New Community Centre Under Construction
The new Bisinella Community Centre is under construction in Buckingham Street, owned and to be maintained by L. Bisinella Developments. The new facility includes three offices, a kitchen and a hall and is due for completion in May 2010. Lara Community Centre will run programs from the centre, which will form part of the 800-lot Grand Lakes housing estate. [ Geelong News, Wed 1 July 2009, p. 7 ]
- Synthetic Green and Lighting Upgrade for Bowling Club

- Interim Library Facility due June 2010

- Elcho Park Irrigation Project Starts
The project to install a 6.7km pipeline to carry 'C' class recycled water from Barwon Prison's sewage treatment plant for use at Elcho Park commenced in November 2009. The project will conserve up to 45 mega litres of potable water each year, and should result in improved playing conditions for the Elcho Park Golf Course. Water is expected to flow from the pipeline from February 2010, depending on weather construction and the amount of rock encountered during pipeline construction. - Centreway Pedestrian Safety Improves
The City of Greater Geelong has completed upgrades to The Centreway shopping centre, including two speed hump pedestrian crossings, safety railing and landscaped median strip. Safety improvements have also been implemented at the Sixways shopping centre, including a pedestrian crossing on Patullos Road. [ Geelong News, Wed 9 September 2009, p. 11 ]
- Lara Structure Plan 2009
The Lara Structure Plan 2007 has been partially reviewed and a new Structure Plan was adopted on the 9 June 2009. The Structure Plan identifies growth directions for the township for the next 10 years. Council will now seek authorisation from the Minister for Planning to prepare an Amendment to have the Structure Plan included in the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme. - Lara Community Bank Opens
The Lara Community Bank (Bendigo Bank) opened for business at 5 Waverley Rd (Centreway shopping centre), Lara on 30 Jun 2009, open 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday, 9am - midday Saturday. Founded by the Lara District Community Enterprise, startup capital for the bank was raised through shareholder pledges from community members. [ Geelong News, Wed 1 July 2009, p. 7 ]
