The nearest library branch is Corio Branch (John Drysdale Library), open Monday - Saturday, Cox Rd, Norlane, (03) 5275 2388. In lieu of a local library building, a mobile library makes regular visits to Lara Centreway shopping centre and St Anthony's Primary School. Call (03) 5241 6151 for mobile library times. You can browse the full catalogue of items online and reserve books to be delivered to the mobile library for collection. So apart from browsing the shelves, you don't miss out too much. The mobile library seems to carry a reasonable stock of different items too, and loans periods are longer than normal branch loans, with 4 weeks for books/audio and 2 weeks for magazines. Lara CFA Fire Brigade
The Lara Fire Brigade is located on Mill Road. Lara's Fire Brigade consists of approximately 45 volunteers who provide fire services and fire safety information to the local community.

* All people planning to burn-off, need to have a permit to burn. This applies all year-round in the City of Greater Geelong, regardless of your property size or weather conditions. Permits are only issued by the council and ensure that the fire brigade is not called unnecessarily. To obtain a permit application call 5227 0270. Last updated 20 February 2008 Youth Referral and Independent Person ProgramThe Youth Referral and Independent Person Program (YRIPP) provides volunteers to assist young people at Police Stations. An Independent Person supports young people though police interviews and refers them to support services to prevent future offending. YRIPP is funded by the State Government and is an award winning crime prevention program. It is a partnership of the Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues, the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria, UnitingCare Ballarat and other agencies.
